Ecco returns in his second game, which is very similar to the first.  Additions include 3D (into the screen) levels to use teleport rings to move between areas of the game, and the ability to morph into different creatures by touching "metaspheres".  A side quest is also available, involving guiding lost baby Orcas back to their family in each level, with rewards should the player succeed.  The game is every bit as beautiful and atmospheric as its predecessor, but doesn't really take it any further forward either - the meat of the game is still puzzle solving and interacting with various types of glyph.  Of course, when a game is this good, being similar to the pre first isn't necessarily a bad thing.  The third Ecco game was Ecco Jr - a cart only title released only to the Australian market, but apparantly no great loss to the rest of us!  The fourth title (Defender of the Future) was released by Sega for the DC and later the PS2.

The prequel Ecco the Dolphin was released with both early and later style covers.
